TL;DR
Software Engineer (Textile Composite Modeling) (Multiscale Simulation): Developing production-ready multiscale material models and virtual manufacturing workflows for textile composites in the DIGIMAT simulation platform with an accent on homogenization, continuum mechanics, and damage and failure modeling. Focus on validating automated model-generation workflows against experimental data, integrating simulation capabilities into production software, and evaluating AI/ML-assisted simulation acceleration.
Location: Mont Saint Guibert, Belgium; travel below 10%, primarily to industry conferences and customer sites within Europe.
Company
develops computational software, hardware, and intellectual property for electronic design and simulation across automotive, aerospace, defense, energy, industrial, and other technology sectors.
What you will do
- Design and implement multiscale material models for woven, braided, NCF, and 3D woven textile composites in the DIGIMAT platform.
- Develop virtual manufacturing workflows for draping, infusion, RTM, compression molding, and curing.
- Build and validate homogenization, continuum mechanics, damage, and failure models.
- Create automated workflows for textile composite model generation, characterization, and correlation with experimental data.
- Lead and contribute to R&D projects from algorithm development through industrial deployment and customer validation.
- Collaborate with materials scientists, manufacturing engineers, software developers, industrial partners, and customers to deliver production-quality simulation capabilities.
Requirements
- PhD in engineering, materials science, mechanical engineering, applied mathematics, or a related discipline, or equivalent research and industry experience.
- 5–8 years of post-doctoral or industrial R&D experience in composite materials modeling, including direct experience with textile composites and multiscale simulation.
- Advanced knowledge of homogenization, continuum mechanics, and composite damage and failure modeling.
- Strong understanding of woven, braided, NCF, and 3D woven architectures and their relationship to manufacturing and structural performance.
- Proficiency in at least one of C++, C#, or Python, with experience developing and validating simulation software.
- Experience with finite element platforms such as Abaqus, Marc, LS-DYNA, or Nastran, plus Git or SVN, Docker, automated testing, and CI/CD.
Nice to have
- Experience with WiseTex, TexGen, DFCA, PAM-RTM, or equivalent textile and process simulation tools.
- Exposure to AI/ML for materials modeling or simulation acceleration.
- Experience developing ICME workflows connecting process, microstructure, and performance.
- Peer-reviewed publications or conference papers in composite materials or computational mechanics.
Culture & Benefits
- Work within a multidisciplinary DIGIMAT R&D group focused on heterogeneous materials and manufacturing processes.
- 26 days of annual holiday.
- Group pension plan and hospitalization insurance.
- Homeworking allowance and lunch vouchers.
- Five paid volunteer days, employee stock purchase plan, and a Fortune 100 workplace.
