Computer Vision Engineer (AI)

Location: San Bruno, California, United States

Salary: $220,000–$250,000 per year, excluding benefits and potential equity.

What you will do

• Train and evaluate segmentation, classification, detection, tracking, and mass-estimation models for the commercial food-waste camera pipeline.
• Fine-tune ConvNets and VLMs, prompt foundation models, and optimize models for edge production performance.
• Build cloud-side evaluation harnesses, MLOps pipelines, model lineage tracking, and deployment workflows.
• Create and curate datasets for different customers, food types, kitchen environments, and deployment configurations.
• Analyze failures caused by unfamiliar food classes, lighting, clutter, and novel environments, then drive modeling and data improvements.
• Develop annotation tooling and foundation-model-assisted ground-truth generation workflows while collaborating with MLOps and edge engineers.

Requirements

• Strong computer vision and deep learning fundamentals, including segmentation, detection, classification, and tracking.
• Practical experience with VLMs, LLMs, foundation models, agentic systems, and classical deep learning.
• Experience designing rigorous evaluation metrics and harnesses and using results to guide product decisions.
• Experience taking ML models to production, including managing drift, edge cases, and latency budgets.
• Strong software skills in Python, PyTorch, and OpenCV, plus experience with LLM or agent frameworks.
• Clear technical communication and experience making evidence-based build-versus-buy or tooling decisions.

Nice to have

• Video understanding experience, including temporal consistency, tracking, and video segmentation.
• Experience with MLOps tools such as Weights & Biases, MLflow, SageMaker, or ClearML.
• Hardware or IoT product experience, especially computer vision and cameras for embedded systems.
