Imaging ML Scientist (Computer Vision)

Location: Hybrid in South San Francisco, California; required to work from headquarters at least three days per week

Salary: $215,000–$235,000 annual base salary for successful US-based applicants, plus eligibility for an annual performance bonus and equity incentive plan.

What you will do

• Partner with experimental and computational biologists to design, troubleshoot, and optimize high-throughput imaging experiments and workflows.
• Develop and deploy computer vision and machine learning methods, including segmentation, feature extraction, recognition, classification, domain adaptation, and representation learning.
• Build robust, well-tested image analysis workflows with software engineers for use by biologists with minimal direct support.
• Calibrate tools, define performance metrics, benchmark models, and select fit-for-purpose solutions for microscopy image datasets.
• Communicate findings through reports, visualizations, presentations, and publications.
• Identify disease-relevant phenotypes and propose screening paradigms that inform therapeutic target and drug development decisions.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in computer vision, machine learning, computer science, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience such as a master’s degree with two or more years of relevant industry experience.
• Strong programming skills in Python and experience working with terabyte-scale image datasets.
• Experience developing computer vision models with modern deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, or Keras.
• Extensive hands-on experience with microscopy data or comparable biomedical or physical imaging modalities.
• Ability to identify and apply state-of-the-art machine learning and computer vision methods, collaborate across functions, and communicate effectively.
• Demonstrated ability to write software in a team, through industry experience or substantial open-source involvement.

Nice to have

• Experience modeling video or imaging time-series datasets.
• Experience with microscopy hardware or image data acquisition.
• Understanding of optical physics, resolution, and numerical aperture.
• Familiarity with AWS or Azure, SQL, and agentic software development tools.
• Publication record in computer vision, clinical machine learning, or biomedical venues.
