What you will do

• Develop novel mechanical solutions for experimental plasma diagnostic devices in collaboration with scientists, engineers, and product designers.
• Own the mechanical design of diagnostic systems, including requirements definition, hardware troubleshooting, and continuous improvement.
• Design, prototype, and iterate mechanical components and assemblies using NX or SolidWorks.
• Perform structural and thermal analysis using tools such as ANSYS or FEMAP and lead design reviews.
• Conduct experimental testing, analyze performance data, and support root-cause analysis of mechanical failures.
• Integrate new hardware into ongoing fusion research experiments and apply lessons from historical designs.

Requirements

• Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering with experience in plasma, laser, aerospace, or a similar specialty.
• At least 5 years of hands-on industry experience with diagnostic equipment, laboratory instrumentation, precision sensing, or similar technologies.
• At least 5 years of experience with CAD software such as NX or SolidWorks.
• At least 5 years of experience with FEA software such as ANSYS or FEMAP.
• Experience applying engineering first principles and method-based thinking to challenging first-of-a-kind designs.
• Hands-on exposure to mechanical, electrical, and fluid engineering disciplines.
