TL;DR

Senior Mechanical Engineer (Nuclear): Designing and developing critical structures for a portable nuclear microreactor with an accent on structural integrity, material selection, thermomechanical analysis, and manufacturability. Focus on solving complex high-temperature, vibration, shock, shielding, and volumetric-constraint challenges while integrating designs into assembly and testing.

Location: 100% onsite at the El Segundo, California headquarters; extended hours and weekends may be required. The position involves access to technology subject to U.S. export controls.

Salary: $133,500–$184,800 annually, plus equity.

Company

  • At least 4 years of stress-analysis experience using hand calculations and finite element tools such as Abaqus, Ansys, FEMAP, or similar.
  • Experience with structural integrity, thermomechanical analysis, and free-body diagrams.
  • Ability to work 100% onsite in El Segundo and comply with applicable U.S. export-control requirements.
  • Strong organizational, written, oral communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Nice to have

  • Experience designing multi-component assemblies in NX or similar CAD tools.
  • Experience with manufactured, deployed, and iteratively improved hardware.
  • Experience resolving thermal-expansion issues and applying GD&T.
  • Experience using text-based software development tools.

Culture & Benefits

  • Substantial incentive stock plan for full-time employees.
  • Comprehensive medical, vision, dental, life, accident, hospital, critical-illness, commuter, FSA, and HSA benefits.
  • Eight weeks of paid parental leave for all parents, with additional paid pregnancy leave for California employees.
