Variant Scientist (Cancer Genetics)

Location: Remote - Illinois. The Variant Science team works either Tuesday-Saturday or Sunday-Thursday.

Salary: $85,000-$100,000 annually for roles performed from Illinois; compensation may vary for other locations, including California, Colorado, and New York.

What you will do

• Classify somatic and germline variants for liquid biopsy, panel tests, and whole exome NGS sequencing.
• Analyze clinical molecular data using in-house software tools.
• Interpret scientific literature and curate relevant findings clearly and precisely.
• Summarize somatic and inherited genetic test results into clinical reports.
• Perform quality control for molecular reports in accordance with quality management programs and standard operating procedures.
• Support assay and process improvements, curate variants, genes, and diseases, and potentially train junior team members.

Requirements

• MS or PhD in Cancer Genetics, Human Genetics, or Biological Sciences.
• Experience in a diagnostic laboratory and clinical report writing is preferred.
• Familiarity with human mutation databases, genome browsers, and HGVS nomenclature.
• Strong oncology experience is preferred.
• Excellent attention to detail, communication, and writing skills, with the ability to follow formal documentation and protocols accurately.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively, adjust priorities, and follow a Tuesday-Saturday or Sunday-Thursday schedule.
