Director, Engineering (Android)

Location: Remote within the United States. Travel required approximately 2–4 weeks per year.

Base salary: $185,600–$257,400 per year.

What you will do

• Own engineering outcomes across field operations tooling, device management, exam-room technology, waiting-room displays, and back-office systems.
• Manage senior Engineering Leads and individual-contributor engineers, including hiring, performance management, career growth, and organizational resourcing.
• Stay hands-on through code reviews, direct contributions, technical guidance, and architecture trade-off decisions.
• Coordinate priorities and dependencies across three or more concurrent product areas with different technologies and team maturity.
• Represent device product areas in architecture reviews and collaborate with Product, Design, Architecture, and executive stakeholders.
• Champion AI-assisted and agentic engineering practices and AI-powered capabilities such as automated device diagnostics.

Requirements

• 12+ years of software engineering experience, including 4+ years leading engineering teams.
• Experience managing blended teams of technical leads, individual contributors, full-time engineers, and contractors across onshore and offshore locations.
• Hands-on Android engineering experience, including custom Android ROMs, MDM, AWS IoT Core, BLE/GATT, remote updates, rollback, and constrained or intermittently connected devices.
• Experience with JavaScript or TypeScript front ends and backend services such as Kotlin/JVM or Node/serverless microservices.
• Hands-on use of AI-assisted development tools and experience driving AI-assisted or agentic practices across engineering teams.
• Ability to lead architecture decisions, improve engineering quality and delivery practices, develop talent, and manage organizational change.

Nice to have

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, information systems, or a related field.
• Experience with BrightSign, AOSP, customized Android ROMs, Kotlin Multiplatform, or cross-platform native architectures.
• Experience with AI SDLC practices, agent orchestration, or AI-powered device operations.
• Experience with vulnerability management, SAST/SCA/DAST, distributed systems security, healthcare compliance, PHI, or HIPAA.
• Experience with product-trio operating models, architecture review processes, and DORA metrics.
