Director of Engineering (AI)

Location: Fully remote, open across most of the United States

Salary: $160,000–$180,000 annually plus bonus

What you will do

• Lead the day-to-day performance, development, staffing, and organizational effectiveness of the engineering organization.
• Manage and coach engineers and technical leads, supporting career growth, accountability, and future technical leadership.
• Establish predictable delivery practices with clear visibility into capacity, commitments, dependencies, risks, and team health.
• Partner with Product on roadmap feasibility, engineering commitments, prioritization, capacity, and tradeoffs.
• Drive responsible AI-assisted development practices across coding, testing, documentation, automation, and the broader development lifecycle.
• Serve as the primary escalation point for cross-team delivery, staffing, personnel, and organizational issues.

Requirements

• Experience leading and developing engineers across multiple product teams.
• Experience with performance management, hiring, onboarding, and career development.
• Experience leading technical leads and senior engineers.
• Technical depth sufficient to understand engineering tradeoffs and earn the trust of experienced developers without acting as the primary architect.
• Demonstrated success improving organizational effectiveness while maintaining a strong engineering culture.
• Ability to work remotely from most locations in the United States.

Hiring process
