Engineering Manager (AI)

Location: São Paulo, Brazil; fully remote

Salary: $120,000–$140,000 USD annually as a contractor, depending on experience

What you will do

• Lead cross-functional delivery teams of 4–5 engineers and report to the Head of Engineering.
• Create concrete growth plans, coach engineers, manage performance, and address conflict directly.
• Own predictable delivery by managing scope, surfacing risks early, and maintaining team commitments.
• Partner with Product, Design, quality engineering, architecture, security, and other engineering teams from estimation through release.
• Provide technical direction through system design input, architectural risk identification, code reviews, and debugging support.
• Drive adoption of AI tools and workflows for code review, documentation, sprint planning, debugging, and development.

Requirements

• Previous experience leading and developing engineering teams, including career planning and structured underperformance management.
• Experience managing fully remote, distributed teams using asynchronous communication and remote ceremonies.
• Direct and effective conflict-resolution skills across engineering, product, and individual performance situations.
• Ability to use metrics such as velocity, retention risk, and individual contributor growth to guide decisions.
• Technical credibility with experience contributing to code reviews, architectural discussions, or debugging.
• Deep practical experience introducing AI workflows and tools such as Claude or Copilot into engineering teams.
