Staff Software Engineer (Billing)

Location: San Francisco, CA, United States; on-site

Salary: $210,000–$255,000 annually plus bonus and Restricted Stock Units

What you will do

• Design, build, and operate scalable billing services covering usage metering, pricing, invoicing, and payment integrations.
• Develop real-time and batch processing pipelines for usage tracking and cost calculation.
• Build APIs that provide customers with transparent insights into usage and spending.
• Improve billing accuracy through validation, reconciliation, observability, monitoring, alerting, and error handling.
• Partner with Product, Finance, Customer Success, and Support on pricing models, product launches, and revenue workflows.
• Lead technical design discussions, mentor engineers, review code, and contribute to architectural decisions.

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional software development experience, including backend development with Go, Java, Rust, or C++.
• Experience building billing, payment, metering, financial, or similarly complex high-integrity data systems.
• Experience designing and operating scalable, fault-tolerant distributed systems with strong data consistency guarantees.
• Knowledge of real-time and batch processing, event-driven architectures, and financial data modeling.
• Strong focus on correctness, reliability, maintainability, data accuracy, edge cases, and observability.
• Experience mentoring engineers and communicating complex systems and trade-offs to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
