Staff Software Engineer, Billing (Fintech)

Salary: USD $140,400–$372,300 per year, plus potential bonus, stock, and benefits.

What you will do

• Own and evolve billing and payment systems serving millions of users, with a focus on fraud and abuse mitigation.
• Drive architectural decisions across backend services, APIs, and frontend experiences while balancing reliability, scale, and developer velocity.
• Define testing plans, success metrics, and customer-feedback processes while maintaining security and compliance standards.
• Mentor engineers and raise engineering quality through pairing, feedback, code review, and technical leadership.
• Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders and Microsoft teams on shared technical and architectural problems.
• Participate in on-call rotations, lead incident response, and improve system reliability based on operational learnings.

Requirements

• 9+ years of software engineering experience, or equivalent experience with a qualifying degree and fewer years of experience.
• Production software development experience with languages such as C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, Go, Ruby, Rust, or Python.
• Experience designing and operating cloud services, including infrastructure and deployment concerns, on platforms such as Azure.
• Experience with technical leadership, cross-team decision-making, mentoring, and distributed collaboration.
• Must be able to work remotely from the United States.

Nice to have

• Experience integrating payment processors or marketplace billing platforms such as Stripe, Zuora, or Azure Marketplace.
• Experience with fraud and risk tooling, risk scoring, trust tiers, bot prevention, or identity abuse prevention.
• Experience operating Go services at scale in high-traffic production environments.
• Experience with JavaScript and frontend frameworks such as React.
• Experience driving technical decisions through RFCs, design documents, and asynchronous collaboration.
