Staff Software Engineer (Enterprise Frameworks)

Location: Hybrid in Reno, Nevada or San Ramon, California, United States. Must be authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship.

Salary: $182,500–$228,000 typical starting annual range; $200,500–$251,000 in select locations including the San Francisco Bay Area and New York City Metro Area.

What you will do

• Design, build, and evolve extensible enterprise platform frameworks used by product engineering teams.
• Lead architecture discussions covering data models, APIs, event-driven workflows, indexing pipelines, background jobs, and shared infrastructure.
• Design and test platform abstractions with strong correctness, performance, scalability, security, data integrity, and developer experience.
• Operate production services through monitoring, alerting, logging, incident response, performance tuning, on-call support, and data integrity practices.
• Use AI tools throughout research, prototyping, implementation, testing, documentation, and code review while ensuring production quality and security.
• Coach engineers and collaborate with Platform, Product, engineering, and cross-functional teams on technical direction.

Requirements

• 8+ years of software engineering experience architecting and delivering shared platforms, infrastructure, or frameworks.
• Strong software architecture judgment and experience decomposing ambiguous problems, comparing alternatives, and making pragmatic tradeoffs.
• Experience designing extensible data models, APIs, platform abstractions, and distributed systems with event-driven workflows, asynchronous processing, caching, idempotency, observability, and failure handling.
• Strong backend engineering experience with Java, Kotlin, or Python and relational databases such as PostgreSQL.
• Experience operating production services and working with large or distributed codebases in agile environments.
• Ability to mentor engineers, influence technical direction, and communicate clearly with technical and cross-functional partners.

• AI-assisted development workflows using Claude, Cursor, Copilot, or similar tools.
• Kafka, Redis, Kubernetes, Helm, Spark, AWS RDS, Lambda, or related distributed infrastructure technologies.
• Cloud-based multi-region architectures and mission-critical enterprise software experience.
• Search relevance, compliance, audit requirements such as SOC 2, or regulated financial services experience.
• JavaScript, React, HTML, CSS, Jest, Pytest, or Cypress experience.
