Principal Software Engineer - Integration & Data Architecture

Location: Office-based or remote within the USA

Salary: $150,000–$214,000 annually, plus bonus

Healthcare business and data automation company providing a cloud-based supply chain exchange, analytics, and services for healthcare providers, manufacturers, and distributors.

What you will do

• Define event-driven integration patterns, messaging standards, service boundaries, and event contract practices.
• Lead the transition from a homegrown event bus to a cloud-native messaging platform.
• Establish REST API governance, versioning, compatibility, contract testing, and safe rollout patterns.
• Guide schema design, datastore selection, access patterns, replication, syndication, and zero-downtime database migrations.
• Run design reviews, workshops, and office hours while producing decision records, design guides, and reference implementations.
• Communicate architectural trade-offs and technical risk to engineering, product, and executive stakeholders.

Requirements

• 10+ years of hands-on experience building and shipping distributed systems as an individual contributor.
• Deep experience with event-driven architecture, messaging infrastructure, integration patterns, failure handling, idempotency, and consistency trade-offs.
• Hands-on AWS experience with SQS, SNS, EventBridge, DynamoDB, RDS/Aurora, API Gateway, and Lambda.
• Strong relational and NoSQL data architecture skills, including schema design, partitioning, indexing, ORM trade-offs, and performant data access.
• Experience designing REST APIs, data contracts, backward compatibility strategies, and CI/CD contract validation.
• Strong English communication skills and availability to work in the USA-based role setup are required.

Nice to have

• Experience with healthcare, supply chain, ERP, CRM, or other regulated enterprise platforms.
• Azure PaaS, Terraform, Snowflake, Redshift, or analytics data-layer experience.
• Data architecture for ML/LLM applications, including vector databases, embeddings, or RAG.
• Previous Principal or Staff Engineer experience.
