Supplier Development Engineer (Motors & Magnets) (Robotics Manufacturing): Industrializing motor and magnet suppliers for humanoid robots from design validation through production ramp-up with an accent on manufacturing process capability, supplier quality, and production readiness. Focus on APQP and PPAP execution, reducing quality escapes through root cause analysis, and scaling critical motion-system components for NEO.

Location: San Carlos, California, United States; on-site. Travel up to 40% domestically and internationally, including occasional short-notice travel.

Salary: $133,000–$195,000 per year plus equity.

What you will do

  • Industrialize new motor and magnet suppliers from design validation through production ramp-up.
  • Establish supplier processes that meet quality, reliability, performance, and scalability targets.
  • Lead APQP and PPAP execution for product launches and production readiness.
  • Identify supplier risks, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions to reduce quality escapes.
  • Improve supplier quality, process capability, delivery readiness, and continuous improvement performance.
  • Collaborate with engineering, sourcing, manufacturing, quality, operations, and external suppliers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • 6+ years of experience in supplier quality, manufacturing quality, supplier development, or manufacturing engineering in automotive, aerospace, robotics, medical device, or similar industries.
  • Deep understanding of motor manufacturing, including winding, rotor/stator assembly, balancing, bearing integration, and final testing.
  • Experience with permanent magnets, magnetic assemblies, bonding processes, supplier industrialization, APQP, and PPAP approval through production launch.
  • Working knowledge of FMEA, Control Plans, SPC, MSA, capability studies, GD&T, and production quality systems.
  • Strong problem-solving, statistical analysis, Six Sigma, 8D, structured root cause, cross-functional influence, and supplier accountability skills.

Nice to have

  • Experience with actuators, motion control systems, electronics, battery systems, sensors, and electromechanical assembly.
  • Experience auditing suppliers against ISO 9001, IATF 16949, or equivalent systems.
  • CQE, Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt, or Certified Quality Auditor certification.
  • Experience validating tooling, fixtures, automation equipment, and production test systems.
