TL;DR
Principal Aerostructures Engineer (Aerospace Certification): Reviewing and approving aerostructural designs and certification documentation within a DOA framework with an accent on airworthiness, EASA/UK CAA Part 21 compliance, and metallic and composite structures. Focus on interpreting structural substantiation and stress analyses, supporting aircraft certification programmes, and resolving design, non-conformity, and airworthiness challenges.

Location: Bristol, United Kingdom; hybrid on-site. Region: South West UK. Security clearance: Clearable and may require Baseline Personnel Security Standard clearance.

What you will do

  • Review and approve aerostructural designs under Design Organisation Approval requirements.
  • Assess metallic and composite structures, structural analyses, substantiation reports, and design justifications.
  • Ensure compliance with EASA and UK CAA Part 21, airworthiness, safety, performance, and certification requirements.
  • Provide technical oversight during design reviews, certification audits, and product development activities.
  • Collaborate with design, stress, manufacturing, and certification teams.
  • Investigate design issues, non-conformities, and airworthiness concerns while improving DOA processes.

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of EASA and/or UK CAA Part 21 regulations and aerospace certification processes.
  • Experience working in a Design Organisation Approval environment and reviewing structural engineering data.
  • Significant experience in aerospace structural design, stress, airworthiness, or certification engineering, including 5+ years of experience.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, or equivalent military experience.
  • Experience supporting aircraft certification programmes in a regulated aerospace environment.
  • Strong technical judgement, decision-making, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

Nice to have

  • DOA Signatory or Approver authorisation.
  • Experience with fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft programmes.
  • Knowledge of CS-23, CS-25, CS-27, or CS-29 certification requirements.
  • Experience with certification audits, regulatory authority interactions, fatigue, damage tolerance, or structural integrity assessments.
  • Experience mentoring engineers and providing technical leadership.
