Director, Core Manufacturing Technology

Location: Hybrid role based in San Francisco, California, with 3 days per week in the office. Candidates residing in Alaska, Delaware, Iowa, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, South Dakota, Vermont, West Virginia, or Wisconsin are not being considered.

Salary: $226,100–$266,000 per year for San Francisco; compensation uses a market-based US location tier system.

What you will do

• Own the three-year Core Technology roadmap for foundational manufacturing processes, focusing on miniaturization, water-tightness, and high-density electronics.
• Establish standardized “Golden Processes” and deploy reusable process modules across new product introductions and product lines.
• Develop and protect proprietary manufacturing methods for form factor, robustness, reliability, and competitive advantage.
• Lead advanced molding, encapsulation, coatings, optics, and ultra-miniaturized SMT technology development.
• Define global equipment and tooling standards, manage strategic vendor relationships, and ensure contract manufacturers can execute core recipes.
• Deploy experts into EVT, DVT, and PVT programs and qualify manufacturing sites for high-volume yield, reliability, and capacity.

Requirements

• 12+ years of high-volume experience in consumer electronics, wearables, medical devices, or semiconductors.
• Hands-on factory-floor experience solving molding or SMT yield and fallout issues.
• Experience leading multidisciplinary teams of senior and staff-level engineers across SMT, molding, encapsulation, coatings, optics, or automation.
• Master’s degree or PhD in materials science, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical expertise.
• Experience managing equipment and process vendors and guiding contract manufacturers in adopting and scaling proprietary processes.
• Ability to collaborate across at least three time zones and communicate complex technical topics to diverse stakeholders.
