Principal Systems Engineer (AI/DevTools)

Location: Hybrid in the United States; applicants advancing to the offer stage may need to attend an in-person interview at a hirify.global office or hub.

Salary: $230,000–$281,000 annual salary for hires based in New York City, Washington, Washington D.C., and California excluding the Bay Area; $200,000–$275,000 annual salary for Colorado-based hires.

What you will do

• Build, ship, and operate AI coding tools used by thousands of engineers.
• Develop AI-assisted developer-observability tools, agents, and internal MCP servers for GitLab, Confluence, Jira, Backstage, and related systems.
• Maintain shared context-engineering assets, including configurations, prompt libraries, and agent instructions.
• Integrate AI tooling with CI/CD pipelines and implement security and access controls.
• Own projects end to end, including roadmap planning, prioritization, delivery, operations, adoption tracking, and support.
• Mentor engineers, provide code and design feedback, and help prevent and respond to incidents.

Requirements

• Strong coding ability in TypeScript, Go, Rust, and Bash.
• Excellent debugging skills and experience with source control, including branching, merging, and rebasing.
• Experience deploying and operating Kubernetes or a similar platform.
• Ability to break down complex problems, evaluate trade-offs, and drive solutions to completion.
• Experience or strong interest in building developer-experience and developer-productivity tools.
• A track record of mentoring and improving engineering quality through code review and design feedback.

Nice to have

• Production experience with LLM-based tools, including agents, evaluations, cost optimization, and latency tuning.
• Experience with CI/CD systems, build tooling, or hirify.global Workers and AI Gateway.
• Experience operating Kubernetes on premises at scale or designing platforms across multiple zones and regions.
• Background in platform engineering or developer productivity, or open-source contributions to developer tooling or AI projects.
