Sr. Staff Engineer, Platform R&D

Salary: $245,000–$295,000 per year plus bonus and restricted stock units

What you will do

• Lead rapid R&D experiments and AI-augmented prototypes across Managed Platform Services domains.
• Evaluate new platform capabilities, including their viability and fit with existing managed cloud services.
• Provide senior technical guidance on architecture, implementation approaches, and build-versus-extend decisions.
• Define early product and feature scope, surface risks, and create prototypes, technical specifications, and feasibility assessments.
• Identify reusable platform patterns and opportunities to consolidate or generalize capabilities across domains.

Requirements

• 10+ years of software development experience, including substantial senior individual-contributor or staff-level experience.
• Strong understanding of managed cloud services, distributed systems, and platform engineering patterns.
• Proven ability to build high-fidelity prototypes rapidly across multiple technologies.
• Experience using AI tools to accelerate software development, research, and technical decision-making.
• Experience with modern compiled or systems languages such as Go, Rust, Java, or C++ and cloud-native infrastructure.
• Ability to communicate complex technical tradeoffs to engineering, product, and senior stakeholder audiences and influence without formal authority.
