Location: Remote within the United States; preference for candidates based in or around the Bay Area, California, or Ann Arbor, Michigan. Periodic travel to the headquarters in Ann Arbor is required, with travel of up to 25%.
Salary: $200,000–$240,000 annual base compensation depending on experience and level, plus stock options.

What you will do
- Own the end-to-end architecture of the Karman Digital Environment simulation platform.
- Architect systems spanning sub-millisecond control paths and system-level orchestration with coherent time management and deterministic behavior.
- Design time synchronization, signal routing, data-flow orchestration, deterministic replay, scenario execution, platform APIs, and data contracts.
- Define and optimize latency, jitter, throughput, and simulation fidelity across the full stack.
- Serve as the technical authority for simulation and validation methodology across algorithm, QA, product, hardware, firmware, and go-to-market teams.
- Build and lead an engineering team while remaining hands-on in architecture and critical technical decisions.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or advanced degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, robotics, physics, or a related field.
- 10+ years of experience in systems architecture, simulation platforms, real-time or hardware-in-the-loop systems, embedded systems, or high-performance distributed platforms.
- Experience leading small, high-performing engineering teams as a hands-on player-coach.
- Proven experience delivering production-scale simulation platforms or large-scale test systems, including data ingestion, telemetry, playback, platform APIs, and data contracts.
- Deep understanding of scheduling, concurrency, memory access patterns, latency budgets, jitter measurement, and sub-millisecond determinism.
- Fluency in AC power distribution, control-loop dynamics, and electrical protection systems, plus strong communication skills.
Nice to have
- Experience with GPU-based systems or other accelerators and their power-performance tradeoffs.
- Experience with data-center power infrastructure or hyperscaler energy-aware computing.
- Familiarity with vLLM, TensorRT-LLM, or Triton inference-serving systems.
