TL;DR
Mechanical Engineer (Robotics): Designing and delivering mechanical components and electromechanical assemblies for NEO humanoid robots with an accent on rapid prototyping, reliability, manufacturability, and production scalability. Focus on applying engineering analysis, DFM/DFA, tolerance analysis, and cross-functional problem-solving to move hardware from concept through production.

Location: On-site in San Carlos, California, United States

Salary: $150,250–$175,950 annually, plus equity

What you will do

  • Design and release mechanical components and electromechanical assemblies for humanoid robots.
  • Own hardware through the product lifecycle, from concept and prototyping to testing, validation, and manufacturing.
  • Build, test, troubleshoot, and iteratively improve prototype and production-ready hardware.
  • Apply engineering analysis and validation testing to improve performance, reliability, and design decisions.
  • Drive Design for Manufacturability, Design for Assembly, cost optimization, and production readiness.
  • Collaborate with robotics, electrical, controls, software, manufacturing, operations, suppliers, and contract manufacturers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics, or a related engineering discipline.
  • 1–2+ years of experience designing mechanical systems, mechanisms, or electromechanical assemblies in product development.
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks, Creo, NX, CATIA, or similar.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical design principles, materials, manufacturing processes, GD&T, and tolerance analysis.
  • Experience with prototyping, assembly, testing, troubleshooting, engineering drawings, BOMs, specifications, and engineering change documentation.
  • Experience with engineering analysis methods such as FEA, first-principles calculations, or validation testing, plus familiarity with robotic hardware.

Nice to have

  • Experience developing robotic, consumer electronics, automotive, aerospace, or other electromechanical products.
  • Knowledge of machining, sheet metal, injection molding, die casting, or additive manufacturing.
  • Experience supporting prototype development through production ramp and conducting reliability, failure, and root-cause investigations.
  • Familiarity with PLM systems and engineering change management processes.
