TL;DR
Senior Software Engineer, Onboard Autonomy (Autonomous Driving): Building and deploying real-time onboard autonomy software for autonomous vehicles with an accent on behavior planning, sensor-driven pipelines, embedded performance, and safety. Focus on implementing fallback strategies, integrating autonomy features on real hardware, optimizing latency and compute usage, and diagnosing issues from real-world deployments.

Location: Mountain View, California, United States (HQ)

Salary: $193,930–$291,150 per year, plus annual performance bonus, equity, and benefits.

Company

hirify.global is a physical AI company developing Level 4 autonomous driving technology and a universal autonomy platform for robotaxis, logistics fleets, and personal vehicles.

What you will do

  • Develop, integrate, and deploy onboard autonomy behaviors including navigation, obstacle avoidance, lane and route following, docking, and interaction behaviors.
  • Implement real-time behavior planning, state machines or behavior trees, local planning, and control interfaces.
  • Build sensor-driven pipelines using cameras, lidar, radar, IMU, wheel odometry, and GNSS, including synchronization, calibration, and fault handling.
  • Optimize latency, CPU/GPU usage, memory, and power on embedded compute platforms such as NVIDIA Jetson, x86 edge boxes, and custom ECUs.
  • Design safety and fallback mechanisms including health monitoring, degraded modes, watchdogs, safe-stop behavior, and redundancy-aware logic.
  • Integrate, debug, profile, validate, and monitor the autonomy stack on real vehicles; participate in field testing and root-cause analysis.

Requirements

  • Strong software engineering skills in C++ and/or Rust; Python may be used as a supporting language.
  • Experience shipping performance-sensitive, on-device software in embedded Linux or real-time-oriented systems.
  • Understanding of autonomy fundamentals including planning, state estimation or localization, and controls.
  • Experience with robotics middleware and tooling such as ROS/ROS 2, custom publish-subscribe frameworks, gRPC, or DDS.
  • Proficiency with debugging, profiling, GPU performance, and log or trace analysis tools.
  • Strong testing discipline covering unit and integration tests, simulation or HIL concepts, and safe autonomy rollouts.

Nice to have

  • Experience with behavior trees, hierarchical state machines, mission planning, local planners, or real-time control loops.
  • Practical experience with sensor fusion, time synchronization, calibration, mapping, localization, SLAM, or visual-inertial odometry.
  • Familiarity with safety processes such as ISO 26262 concepts, FMEA, and hazard analysis.
  • Experience deploying autonomy to fleets, including OTA updates, versioning, configuration management, and field telemetry.
  • Experience with inference optimization.

Culture & Benefits

  • Work on Level 4 autonomous driving technology intended for real-world deployment.
  • Inclusive workplace focused on diversity and psychological safety.
  • Compensation includes base pay, an annual performance bonus, equity, and a competitive benefits package.
  • Equal opportunity employment with protection against legally prohibited discrimination.
