TL;DR
Senior Software Engineer, ROS Engineer (Robotics): Developing production-grade ROS/ROS2 autonomy applications for real-world robots in construction, mining, and oil & gas, with an accent on perception, localization, control, and multimodal sensor integration. Focus on building real-time C++ and Python pipelines, integrating SLAM and navigation systems, and designing resilient diagnostics and recovery for harsh field environments.

Location: Irvine, California, United States; on-site

Salary: $180,000–$250,000 per year

What you will do

  • Develop, maintain, and deploy ROS/ROS2 packages for navigation, mapping, control, and robotic autonomy.
  • Integrate and calibrate LiDAR, thermal, RGB, depth, GPS, and IMU sensors for autonomous missions.
  • Build modular autonomy APIs interfacing with SLAM, path planning, and mission logic.
  • Implement and optimize real-time data processing pipelines in C++ and Python.
  • Collaborate with perception engineers to integrate AI-driven insights into robotic decision-making.
  • Design, test, troubleshoot, and improve autonomous behavior, diagnostics, and recovery systems on physical platforms in field environments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or a related technical field.
  • Strong production-quality software engineering skills with expertise in C++ and Python.
  • Hands-on experience designing, building, and deploying custom ROS/ROS2 nodes in complex robotic systems.
  • Understanding of localization, SLAM, sensor fusion, navigation, state estimation, and real-time processing.
  • Experience with multimodal sensor data and system-level topics including networking, IPC, and middleware.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, independent working, and collaboration skills.

Nice to have

  • Production deployment experience in construction, mining, oil and gas, or similar industries.
  • Experience handling noisy sensor data and developing robust, resilient algorithms.
  • Experience integrating robotics systems with web services, APIs, and cloud infrastructure.
  • Experience optimizing software for computationally constrained platforms and real-time performance.
