Manufacturing Automation Engineer

Location: On-site at the Sunnyvale headquarters office; travel to contract manufacturing sites and suppliers may be required.

What you will do

• Design, develop, implement, maintain, and optimize automated manufacturing assembly and test systems.
• Program, troubleshoot, and optimize PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems, robotics, and industrial control systems.
• Support installation, commissioning, and validation of production equipment.
• Analyze manufacturing processes to improve productivity, quality, safety, cost, and overall equipment effectiveness.
• Perform root cause analysis, implement corrective actions, and support preventive and predictive maintenance.
• Lead or support capital automation projects from concept through implementation, including documentation and personnel training.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in electrical, mechanical, mechatronics, automation engineering, or a related technical field.
• 3+ years of experience in manufacturing automation, industrial controls, or process engineering.
• Experience programming PLCs such as Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Mitsubishi, Omron, or similar systems.
• Knowledge of industrial communication protocols including Ethernet/IP, Modbus, Profinet, or DeviceNet.
• Experience with robotics integration, automated material handling, electrical controls, sensors, actuators, servo systems, and VFDs.
• Ability to read electrical schematics, P&IDs, and mechanical drawings, with strong troubleshooting, analytical, communication, and project management skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with Industry 4.0, IIoT, data analytics, vision inspection systems, or machine safety standards.
• Knowledge of SQL databases, Python, C#, or other programming languages.
• Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement methodologies.
• Professional certification in automation or controls engineering.
