Environmental Monitor/ Stormwater Erosion Control Inspectors

Location: Hybrid work from home, office, and job sites in Albany, Binghamton, Elmira, Poughkeepsie, Rochester, or Ithaca, New York; travel within New York and surrounding states is required.

Salary: $50,000–$70,000 per year, commensurate with experience.

What you will do

• Perform SWPPP, stormwater, erosion, sediment control, environmental, and agricultural inspections at active construction and utility sites.
• Monitor wetlands, streams, waterbodies, protected resources, agricultural lands, farm operations, access roads, structure sites, laydown yards, and restoration areas.
• Verify installation, maintenance, and removal of erosion and sediment control measures against New York State standards and project plans.
• Identify non-compliance, direct corrective actions, and coordinate resolutions with construction supervisors, contractors, project managers, engineers, and clients.
• Prepare technical SWPPP reports, field notes, daily logs, and on-site compliance documentation.
• Monitor compliance with Environmental Management and Construction Plans for transmission line and renewable energy projects permitted under New York State requirements.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, Biology, or a related field.
• 2–5 years of experience in delineation, permitting, monitoring, construction oversight, or related site work.
• Familiarity with NYSDEC stormwater regulations and New York Department of Agriculture and Markets guidelines for energy projects.
• Ability to prepare high-quality technical reports and maintain accurate, organized records.
• Comfort working outdoors year-round in varying weather conditions and on uneven terrain.
• Ability to travel within New York and surrounding states.
