Environmental Inspector (WI)

TL;DR

Environmental Inspector (WI) (Environmental Compliance/Stormwater): Conducting environmental compliance inspections and construction monitoring for a 34-mile electric transmission line project with an accent on stormwater controls, regulatory requirements, and field documentation. Focus on verifying state and federal permit compliance, resolving construction issues, and producing accurate inspection records in challenging field conditions.

Location: Field-based in Trempealeau or Buffalo County, Wisconsin, USA; remote field settings, adverse weather, and irregular or steep terrain. Work is expected Monday through Saturday for approximately 60 hours per week.

Salary: Starting at $45.00/hour; overtime is paid at 1.5 times the regular hourly rate for hours over 40 per week. Per diem and mileage reimbursements follow GSA and IRS rates.

What you will do

• Monitor active construction activities and report compliance with environmental regulations, permits, and PSCW CPCN conditions.
• Conduct stormwater inspections and verify implementation of erosion-control devices and best management practices.
• Coordinate with project teams and construction managers to prevent and resolve compliance issues.
• Prepare and submit daily inspection records using Fulcrum mobile data collection applications.
• Coordinate biological resource monitor mobilization with the Compliance Manager when required.
• Follow health and safety plans while working independently in field conditions.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or associate degree in natural sciences or a related field, or equivalent field experience.
• Knowledge of construction processes, agricultural mitigation measures, and engineered alignment and facility drawings.
• Ability to work more than 10 hours per day in adverse conditions and carry equipment weighing up to 25 pounds.
• Strong time management, critical thinking, oral communication, and technical writing skills.
• Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Valid driver’s license, acceptable driving record, and ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen.

Nice to have

• Experience with Wisconsin DNR stormwater regulations and technical standards.
• Familiarity with Fulcrum and ArcGIS Field Maps.
