TL;DR
Staff Scientist II (Stormwater Compliance): Supporting environmental and stormwater compliance projects across Bay Area construction and project sites with an accent on inspections, SWPPP development, sampling, and regulatory documentation. Focus on conducting field evaluations, training construction crews, and solving complex compliance and pollution-prevention challenges under California stormwater regulations.

Location: San Ramon, California; local to Bay Area project sites. Hybrid work combines field-based activities with remote flexibility.

Salary: $75,000–$85,000 per year.

What you will do

  • Support environmental and stormwater compliance projects across the Bay Area.
  • Conduct stormwater inspections, field evaluations, sampling, and site monitoring.
  • Develop and implement Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans.
  • Complete desktop evaluations, site assessments, reporting, and compliance records.
  • Train and guide construction crews on-site and assist clients with regulatory compliance and pollution prevention.
  • Collaborate on routine and complex projects, with travel to project sites including occasional overnight travel and extended hours.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, engineering, or a related field.
  • At least 2 years of experience in stormwater compliance or SWPPP-related work.
  • QSP/QSD certification.
  • Knowledge of stormwater regulations, water quality practices, environmental compliance, erosion control, site stabilization, and restoration.
  • Experience with inspection, sampling, reporting, documentation, and compliance tracking systems.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites.

Nice to have

  • CESSWI, CPESC, CPSWQ, QISP, PE, or PG certification.
  • Experience with SMARTS and the California Construction General Permit.
  • Exposure to environmental permitting or natural resources work.
  • Familiarity with ArcGIS.
