Substation Engineer 3 (Electric Utility Substation Engineering)

Location: Hybrid, primarily based in Pomona, California; employees are generally required to work and reside in California. The role requires up to 30% travel and field work throughout the SCE service territory.

Salary: $129,200–$193,700 per year

What you will do

• Develop substation electrical designs and maintain controlled design-basis documentation.
• Conduct engineering studies, technical analyses, life-cycle assessments, and risk assessments for utility infrastructure.
• Coordinate high-impact, complex, and cross-functional engineering projects throughout the project lifecycle.
• Resolve complex technical problems and implement risk mitigation, preventive maintenance, and reliability improvements.
• Lead and coordinate full-time and contract employees, and provide technical guidance and training to junior engineers.
• Support audits and inspections while ensuring compliance with environmental, health, safety, and cybersecurity requirements.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or in a scientific, technical, or mathematics field.
• At least five years of engineering experience in operations, production, construction, or maintenance environments.
• Valid Class C driver’s license.
• Ability to work and reside in California unless otherwise noted.
• Ability to report to the SCE facility on designated days and travel or work in the field for up to 30% of the time.
• Successful completion of a Personnel Risk Assessment or background investigation is required for this NERC/CIP-impacted position, followed by specified training.

Nice to have

• Experience managing and coordinating multiple engineering projects, including scope, planning, tracking, and performance reporting.
• Experience on cross-functional electric utility substation project teams.
• Direct experience with electric utility substation engineering and design.
• Experience using AutoCAD and Bluebeam.
