Power Systems Advanced Applications Engineer 3

Location: Hybrid position based in Alhambra, California; employees are generally required to work and reside in California. The role requires reporting to an SCE facility for a set number of days, with remote work available on the remaining days. Extended work at an alternate location may be required.

Salary: $129,200–$193,700 per year.

What you will do

• Maintain and enhance real-time power system models and advanced applications, including State Estimator, Real-Time Contingency Analysis, Network Topology Processing, and dispatcher training applications.
• Investigate complex application, model, telemetry, topology, and data-quality issues affecting operational decision-making.
• Coordinate technical solutions with Grid Operations, engineering teams, technology partners, vendors, and contract personnel.
• Support the testing, implementation, upgrades, modernization, and operational readiness of new capabilities.
• Conduct risk assessments, improve preventive maintenance procedures, and support the safety, reliability, and availability of utility infrastructure.
• Provide technical leadership, guidance, and training to junior engineering personnel while supporting audits and regulatory compliance.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or in a scientific, technical, or mathematics field.
• Five or more years of engineering experience in operations, production, construction, or maintenance environments.
• Valid Class C driver's license.
• Experience with EMS, SCADA, or other real-time utility control systems is preferred.
• Knowledge of EMS architecture, real-time databases, grid operations concepts, and advanced power system applications is preferred.

Nice to have

• Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, or a related field.
• Experience supporting State Estimator, Real-Time Contingency Analysis, Network Topology Processing, application testing, upgrades, implementations, or modernization initiatives.
• Strong communication, collaboration, and technical leadership skills.
