What you will do

• Own and execute a company-wide patent roadmap prioritizing robotics, AI, and hardware inventions
• Collaborate directly with engineering, AI, and hardware teams to capture and convert inventions into patents
• Build and manage a patent portfolio to protect freedom to operate and deter competitors
• Lead strategic patent acquisitions through landscape and competitive analysis
• Establish and manage trade secret protection programs
• Build and grow the intellectual property team as company milestones demand

Requirements

• Location: Must be onsite in San Carlos, CA
• Deep technical fluency in hardware, AI, or robotics with ability to draft and manage patents hands-on
• 10+ years experience managing patent portfolios in hardware, robotics, AI, or related deep-tech domains
• Experience with patent drafting, prosecution strategy, and portfolio management for complex inventions
• Proven ability to conduct patent landscaping, freedom-to-operate analysis, and competitive assessments
• Technical degree in engineering, computer science, or related field with understanding of robotics or AI

Nice to have

• Experience with intellectual property in humanoid robotics, autonomous systems, or embodied AI
• Registration to practice before the USPTO as a patent agent or attorney
• Familiarity with trademark, brand, copyright, and open-source compliance
• Experience managing international filing strategies (PCT and priority markets)
