In-house Patent Agent (Quantum Computing)

Location: Regular onsite support required at the New Haven, Connecticut facility, with occasional travel to Boca Raton, Florida.

Salary: 137,000–188,000 USD per year for Staff Patent Specialist or 157,000–216,000 USD per year for Principal Patent Specialist.

What you will do

• Lead IP education initiatives and promote patent best practices for the New Haven and Boca Raton research and development teams.
• Partner with researchers and technical teams to understand company technology, identify innovations, and capture valuable inventions.
• Draft and prosecute patent applications across diverse technical areas.
• Coordinate with external patent counsel and build partnerships across technical and business teams.
• Support the growth, management, and continuous improvement of the patent portfolio and related IP processes.
• Monitor quantum technology and intellectual property law developments to inform strategy and recommend solutions.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Physics, Mathematics, Computing Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
• Experience drafting and prosecuting patents before a Patent Office.
• Proven experience in patent drafting, prosecution, and portfolio management.
• Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving, communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities, exercise sound judgment, and build collaborative relationships across technical disciplines.
• Regular onsite work in New Haven is required; occasional travel to Boca Raton is expected.

Nice to have

• Registration as a U.S. Patent Agent or Patent Attorney, or equivalent certification.
• Experience mentoring junior professionals.
