Flight Dynamics Engineer (Aerospace)

What you will do

• Perform, evaluate, and enhance daily orbit determination and prediction for spacecraft supported by NASA's Flight Dynamics Facility.
• Provide navigation support during launches and early orbit operations.
• Conduct navigation analyses, introduce new technologies and techniques, and identify improvements to flight dynamics processes.
• Evaluate ground- and space-based tracking data and troubleshoot spacecraft and ground station anomalies.
• Participate in tracking network validation, calibration, and ground station certification.
• Document and communicate technical analyses through publications, conferences, and collaboration with navigation teams and customers.

Requirements

• US citizenship required; E-Verify participation applies.
• At least 5 years of professional experience in flight dynamics; a master's degree counts as 2 years of professional experience.
• Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related discipline.
• Experience with multiple orbit regimes, spacecraft navigation, orbital mechanics, satellite orbit determination, and orbit determination tools.
• Thorough understanding of batch least squares and Kalman filter estimation.
• Expertise with orbit design and modeling tools such as STK or GMAT, plus strong problem-solving and communication skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with radiometric, GPS, or optical satellite tracking data and NASA tracking networks.
• Knowledge of spacecraft communications, ground systems architecture, or spacecraft operations.
• Experience with ODTK, GMAT, Monte, FreeFlyer, Python, Perl, or Matlab.
• Experience with large-scale data analytics, algorithm development, and automated processing.
• Experience with Windows and Linux environments.
