TL;DR
Simulation Development Engineer II (Aerospace) (New Glenn): Developing and validating real-time simulation infrastructure and mathematical models for the New Glenn launch vehicle, orbital launch site, and associated subsystems with an accent on dynamic modeling, MATLAB/Simulink/Simscape, and hardware-in-the-loop testing. Focus on building SIL/HIL simulation architectures, anchoring physical models to test data, verifying subsystem performance, and operating simulators during launch crew training.

Location: Greater Seattle Area, United States. Applicants must meet U.S. export-control eligibility requirements.

Base pay for Washington applicants: $134,961–$188,945.40 per year. Other site ranges may differ.

Company

hirify.global develops reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems, including the New Glenn heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle.

What you will do

  • Design, implement, analyze, and revise mathematical models of New Glenn, the orbital launch site, and associated subsystems using first principles and test data.
  • Develop real-time software-in-the-loop and hardware-in-the-loop simulation architectures and models.
  • Create and maintain model documentation, databooks, and implementation materials for engineering teams.
  • Support systems analysis and cross-functional architectural decisions across guidance, control, aerodynamics, propulsion, mechanical, fluid, electrical, and thermal domains.
  • Develop verification and validation procedures and support component-level testing, integrated on-site testing, and post-test analysis.
  • Prepare and operate the simulator during launch crew training sessions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in aerospace, computer science, electrical or mechanical engineering, physics, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of dynamic modeling, including multibody dynamics, gas dynamics, fluids, and thermodynamics.
  • Experience with Windows, Linux, Python, real-time operating systems, serial communications, IP networking, and embedded systems.
  • Strong software and model development skills with MATLAB, Simulink, and Simscape; knowledge of C/C++ and Python.
  • Hands-on experience with hardware-in-the-loop testing and test development.

Nice to have

  • Experience with sensor modeling and electro-mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, or electrical subsystems.
  • Experience fitting first-principles models to test data or high-fidelity external simulations using numerical methods.
  • Experience developing and verifying physical models for control design, component sizing, and system performance evaluation.
  • System engineering, configuration management, risk management, or lean software development experience.
  • Familiarity with AI model integration, development, and optimization.

Culture & Benefits

  • Culture focused on safety, collaboration, inclusion, trust, equality, and teamwork.
  • Medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability coverage, paid parental leave, and an education support program.
  • 401(k) with company matching of up to 5% and stock options for regular employees working at least 20 hours per week.
  • Up to four weeks of paid time off per year based on scheduled hours and up to 14 company-paid holidays.
  • Benefits and bonuses may vary by role type and job level.
