Head of Operations (Autonomous Vehicles)

Location: Mountain View, California (HQ)

Salary: $176,400–$264,600 base pay annually, plus annual performance bonus, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

• Lead operations across strategy, commercial launches and geographic expansion, in-vehicle operations, remote assistance, closed-course testing, and operations safety.
• Set strategic direction and own capacity, cost, quality, and safety outcomes across the organization.
• Define function-level KPIs and maintain accountability for operational performance.
• Develop mileage and data collection programs across R&D, mapping, and production vehicle fleets in partnership with technical leadership.
• Build and scale operations across geographies, vehicle platforms, regulatory environments, and mixed employee and contractor workforces.
• Partner with Engineering, Hardware, Commercial Partnerships, Policy, and People to align operations with the technical and commercial roadmap.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience in operations or management consulting, including at least five years in direct leadership roles managing managers and large distributed teams.
• Proven experience building and scaling field operations in complex, high-volume environments such as fleet, logistics, supply chain, or general management.
• Experience running 24/7 shift operations across multiple sites, time zones, and workforce types, including blended employee and contractor populations.
• Strong analytical decision-making skills, including using operational metrics and communicating tradeoffs to technical audiences.
• Experience building training, onboarding, and quality programs that deliver consistent performance at scale.
• Prior P&L ownership with accountability for cost, efficiency, and growth outcomes.

Nice to have

• Experience in safety-critical industries such as automotive, aviation, space, energy, or regulated manufacturing.
• Experience with large-scale vehicle fleet operations, AV testing, commercial trucking, ride-hail, or last-mile delivery.
• Familiarity with safety driver programs, tele-operation, or remote monitoring infrastructure.
• Technical fluency sufficient to discuss data quality, coverage, and operational mileage with software engineers.
• Experience managing programs where routes, miles driven, and captured conditions feed a technical or data roadmap.
