R&D Assembly Technician (Robotics)

Location: San Mateo, California, United States; onsite

Base salary: $70,000–$150,000 USD per year

What you will do

• Build, assemble, wire, and calibrate prototype and early-production robotic units.
• Perform mechanical assembly, fastening, harnessing, and subsystem integration.
• Identify assembly issues, fit problems, and design-for-assembly and design-for-manufacturing feedback.
• Develop and refine standard work instructions as assembly processes are established.
• Troubleshoot build issues with mechanical, electrical, and manufacturing engineers.
• Optionally contribute to BOM and build-system work using OpenBOM and version control.

Requirements

• Hands-on assembly experience with complex electromechanical hardware such as robotics, EVs, aerospace, or medical devices.
• Experience with torque and fastening, wiring and harnessing, soldering, CAD, GD&T, and basic electrical troubleshooting.
• Ability to work with ambiguity and incomplete documentation in a fast-moving R&D environment.
• Curiosity about hardware systems and the communication skills to provide engineers with actionable feedback.
• No degree is required.
