Senior Software Engineer, Agentic Applications (AI)

Location: Seattle, Washington, United States; expected to work from the Seattle offices

Base salary: $146,880–$220,320 per year, plus bonus plans.

Non-profit AI research institute building foundational AI research and real-world products for scientific discovery, including open models, data, robotics, and conservation initiatives.

What you will do

• Build rich user interfaces with React and robust backend services with Python.
• Design product experiences for long-running, non-deterministic agents, including streaming state and persistent context.
• Contribute to agent architecture and define how agents, tools, and services work together.
• Own the full software development lifecycle from ideation and design through testing, deployment, and operational support.
• Collaborate with UX designers, product managers, AI/ML engineers, and research scientists.
• Mentor less-senior engineers and help drive projects to completion.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree and 8+ years of technical experience, or equivalent relevant experience.
• Professional web development experience with JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.
• Strong Python engineering skills and proficiency with React or similar front-end frameworks.
• Experience shipping user-facing products with strong interaction design judgment.
• Experience building and operating agentic products in production.
• Experience with prompt engineering, memory management, agent workflows, external tool integrations, and AI-powered application capabilities.
