Software Engineer (AI)

Location: 100% onsite in Lexington, Massachusetts, United States; candidates must live within 100 miles of Lexington. Onsite attendance is expected at least 4 days per week during the first year, with a hybrid schedule potentially available afterward.

What you will do

• Develop and maintain full-stack applications supporting advanced bioanalytics and data-driven initiatives.
• Build scalable software, bioinformatics tools, and AI-driven solutions using complex biological datasets.
• Design and develop cloud-based distributed systems and microservices on AWS.
• Define data schemas and models for SQL databases and integrate application data.
• Apply secure, reliable software architecture and maintain comprehensive technical documentation.
• Advise development teams on the strategic and downstream implications of technical decisions.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related discipline, or a bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of relevant experience.
• 5+ years of full-stack software development experience.
• Strong proficiency in modern Python, including Flask, SQLAlchemy, or boto3, and JavaScript/React.
• 5 years of AWS development experience with services including S3, IAM, RDS, EC2, Systems Manager, CloudWatch, CloudFormation, ECR, and EKS.
• Experience with SQL schema design and data modeling, microservices, version control, and software documentation.
• Interim clearance is sufficient to start; an active clearance is highly preferred.

Nice to have

• SQL database performance tuning and query optimization.
• Experience defining, debugging, and troubleshooting ETL/ELT pipelines.
• Experience managing workflows in Kubernetes-based orchestration engines such as Kubeflow.
• Background in bioinformatics, genomics, or related life sciences data.
