Principal UX Designer (Cybersecurity)

Location: Remote - US; semi-frequent local and national travel to professional offices and other events, including some overnight travel.

Salary: $200,000–$215,000 USD base salary, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

• Lead UX in cross-functional product trios with product and engineering, owning workflow understanding, usability risk, and customer experience outcomes.
• Conduct customer discovery through interviews, usability sessions, beta feedback synthesis, and practitioner research with SOC analysts, detection engineers, and security managers.
• Design AI interactions for reviewing, trusting, governing, and contesting AI-completed security work, including evidence visibility, uncertainty communication, human override, and auditability.
• Translate complex security operations workflows into intuitive, efficient, and trustworthy experiences for high-pressure environments.
• Build prototypes to validate concepts, establish scalable design patterns, and evolve the design system.
• Represent design in product strategy, roadmap discussions, discovery practices, design reviews, and release planning with executives, customers, and cross-functional partners.

Requirements

• 10+ years of UX or product design experience, including at least 3 years in senior or principal individual-contributor roles.
• Deep experience designing complex, high-stakes enterprise workflows.
• A portfolio demonstrating measurable outcomes and design decisions that changed user behavior.
• Strong user research, synthesis, workshop facilitation, and problem-framing skills.
• Strong understanding of AI UX, including evidence display, human control, uncertainty communication, and trust-aware automation.
• Ability to work from rough concept sketches through detailed flows and pixel-quality designs, with strong communication and storytelling skills.

Nice to have

• Cybersecurity or security operations experience.
• Experience at Series A–C companies with small, fast-moving product teams.
• Hands-on prototyping with code-based tools, including Claude Code.
• Experience defining or significantly contributing to a design system.
• Familiarity with JTBD, continuous discovery, and outcome-oriented product operating models.
