TL;DR
Noise Specialist (Environmental Noise and Vibration): Conducting noise and vibration analyses for transportation, land-use, infrastructure, industrial, commercial, and construction projects in California with an accent on field data collection, quantitative modeling, and CEQA/NEPA technical reporting. Focus on interpreting local noise regulations, preparing Noise Study Reports and Noise Abatement Decision Reports, and coordinating impact analyses with project managers, staff, and clients.

Location: Remote, based out of the Irvine, California office; local travel for fieldwork and meetings is required as needed.

Salary: $60,967–$103,643 per year

What you will do

  • Collect field data and conduct noise and vibration impact analyses for transportation, land-use, infrastructure, roadway, industrial, commercial, and construction projects.
  • Quantify construction, traffic, operational noise, and construction vibration levels using computer models and spreadsheets.
  • Prepare technical noise reports, Noise Study Reports, and Noise Abatement Decision Reports under CEQA, NEPA, 23 CFR 772, and the Caltrans Traffic Noise Analysis Protocol.
  • Research and interpret local noise ordinances and general plan policies to identify applicable analysis thresholds.
  • Coordinate fieldwork, project schedules, and analyses with senior noise staff, project managers, stakeholders, clients, and vendors.
  • Solve quantitative and qualitative problems while managing multiple projects and deadlines.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in acoustics, physics, engineering, environmental science, or a related field, or equivalent education and experience in noise analysis.
  • Ability to conduct outdoor fieldwork and occasionally lift and carry up to 30 pounds.
  • Valid driver’s license, ability to pass an MVR check, and willingness to travel locally and occasionally overnight.
  • Competency in Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, organization, analytical, problem-solving, decision-making, and prioritization skills.
  • Ability to work independently, collaboratively, and with staff at all levels and external clients.

Nice to have

  • 0–3 years of experience preparing CEQA/NEPA analyses or noise and vibration impact analyses.
  • Experience developing and maintaining project schedules.
  • Quantitative or modeling skills and basic knowledge of TNM, SoundPLAN, or similar noise modeling software.
  • General understanding of NEPA and CEQA guidelines.
