Senior Mechanical Engineer (Aerospace & Defense)

Location: El Segundo, California, United States; full-time, on-site

Salary: $140,000–$176,000 base salary per year, excluding bonus, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

• Design ruggedized electronic hardware, sensor systems, avionics, enclosures, structures, mechanisms, and support equipment.
• Develop and maintain 3D CAD models, complex assemblies, production drawings, installation documentation, and interface control documents.
• Own component, assembly, and mechanical subsystem design, including size, weight, and mechanical allocation management.
• Perform structural and thermal analyses, hand calculations, requirements analysis, and design verification.
• Support prototyping, fabrication, mechanical integration, testing, qualification, fit checks, installation, alignment, and troubleshooting.
• Collaborate with electrical, RF, power, manufacturing, systems engineering, customers, suppliers, and platform providers on integration, production transition, DFMA, configuration control, fielding, and sustainment.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
• 4+ years of relevant mechanical design and electronic hardware integration experience in aerospace, defense, or similar applications.
• Strong proficiency with mechanical CAD tools such as SolidWorks, including complex parts and assemblies.
• Experience with production-ready drawings, mechanical interfaces, tolerancing, GD&T, tolerance analysis, and configuration-controlled documentation.
• Experience with RF, avionics, power electronics, embedded computing, ruggedized hardware, prototype builds, integration, testing, or qualification.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• Experience with environmental qualification testing, including thermal cycling, vibration, and shock.
• Experience with NASTRAN, ABAQUS, ANSYS, COMSOL, or similar FEA and multiphysics tools.
• Familiarity with military and aerospace standards, connectors, mechanisms, thermal management, packaging, cable routing, and electromechanical integration.
• Hands-on experience with additive manufacturing, CNC machining, fabrication, assembly, machine shop, or prototype lab equipment.
