Staff Mechanical Engineer (Aerospace)

Location: Full-time, on-site in El Segundo, California, United States

Salary: $167,000–$209,000 base compensation per year

What you will do

• Design and integrate ruggedized electronic hardware, sensor systems, avionics, structures, mechanisms, enclosures, and support equipment.
• Own the mechanical design and integration of subsystems, product areas, and major assemblies.
• Create and maintain 3D CAD models, complex assemblies, production drawings, installation documentation, and interface control documents.
• Perform trade studies, requirements analysis, first-order structural and thermal analyses, hand calculations, and design verification.
• Lead design reviews and collaborate with mechanical, electrical, RF, power, manufacturing, systems engineering, customers, suppliers, and platform providers.
• Support system integration, qualification testing, fit checks, installation, troubleshooting, prototyping, production transition, configuration control, fielding, and sustainment; mentor junior engineers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
• 7+ years of progressively responsible experience designing and integrating electronic hardware for aerospace, defense, or similar applications.
• Strong mechanical CAD proficiency, including SolidWorks or an equivalent tool, complex assemblies, and detailed design.
• Experience with production-ready drawings, mechanical interfaces, tolerancing, alignment, installation practices, ICDs, GD&T, tolerance analysis, and configuration-controlled documentation.
• Experience with ruggedized hardware, environmental requirements, structural analysis, hand calculations, FEA, and applicable military or aerospace standards such as MIL-STD-810.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• Experience with environmental qualification testing, including thermal cycling, vibration, and shock.
• Experience with mechanisms, actuation systems, structures, thermal management, packaging, cable routing, connector layouts, or electromechanical integration.
• Experience with NASTRAN, ABAQUS, ANSYS, COMSOL, or similar FEA and multiphysics tools.
• Experience with prototyping, additive manufacturing, CNC machining, fabrication, assembly, and production transition.
