Senior Staff Mechanical Engineer (Aerospace & Defense)

Location: El Segundo, California, United States; full-time, on-site position

Salary: $198,000–$248,000 annual base compensation, excluding bonuses, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

• Lead the design, development, packaging, and mechanical integration of ruggedized electronic hardware, sensor systems, avionics, structures, mechanisms, and support equipment.
• Own mechanical design for subsystems, product areas, or hardware integration efforts while aligning designs with system requirements and mission constraints.
• Develop mechanical architectures, 3D CAD models, complex assemblies, production drawings, installation documentation, and interface control documents.
• Perform structural and thermal analyses, hand calculations, requirements allocation, design verification, and environmental qualification support.
• Support system integration, fit checks, installation, alignment, troubleshooting, prototyping, production transition, configuration control, and fielded-system sustainment.
• Coordinate with customers, suppliers, manufacturing partners, and cross-functional engineering teams while mentoring less-experienced engineers and designers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
• 10+ years of progressively responsible mechanical design and integration experience in aerospace, defense, or similar applications.
• Strong proficiency with mechanical CAD tools such as SolidWorks, including complex assemblies and detailed design.
• Experience with production-ready drawings, GD&T, tolerance analysis, mechanical interfaces, alignment, installation practices, and configuration-controlled documentation.
• Familiarity with structural analysis, FEA, ruggedized hardware, military and aerospace connectors, and standards such as MIL-STD-810.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• Experience as a lead mechanical engineer or technical authority, including architecture trade studies and system-level requirements allocation.
• Experience with environmental qualification testing, including thermal cycling, vibration, and shock.
• Experience with NASTRAN, ABAQUS, ANSYS, COMSOL, or similar FEA and multiphysics tools.
• Experience with mechanisms, actuation, thermal management, cable routing, connector layouts, prototyping, additive manufacturing, CNC machining, and production transition.
