TL;DR
Systems Engineer (Quantum Computing): Integrating requirements, architectures, interfaces, performance budgets, and verification evidence for neutral-atom quantum computing systems with an accent on multidisciplinary systems engineering, risk management, and technical planning. Focus on translating scientific objectives into verifiable requirements, coordinating system integration and validation, and managing design trade-offs across quantum hardware, software, controls, and optical engineering.

Location: Boulder, CO, United States; on-site

Base salary: $120,000–$145,000 per year, plus annual bonus and company equity.

Company

Builds quantum computers using arrays of optically trapped neutral atoms for advanced computational applications.

What you will do

  • Develop and maintain functional and physical decompositions, requirements baselines, traceability matrices, and verification plans for quantum computing systems.
  • Translate scientific objectives and experimental results into system requirements, architectures, interfaces, and performance budgets.
  • Coordinate system-level design integration, including interface control documents, modeling, simulation, and scalability trade-offs.
  • Identify and track technical risks, dependencies, assumptions, opportunities, and mitigations; support FMEA/FMECA and technical design reviews.
  • Develop and coordinate integration, verification, and validation plans, test protocols, evidence tracking, and requirements closure.
  • Act as a technical liaison across Theory, Quantum Engineering, Hardware, Software, Controls, and Optical Engineering teams, including customer and government program reviews.

Requirements

  • BS or higher in Systems Engineering, Physics, Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, or a related field.
  • At least 2 years of systems engineering experience in complex, multidisciplinary R&D or production environments.
  • Experience leading requirements development, interface control, and verification and validation planning across engineering and science disciplines.
  • Experience with systems engineering tools, configuration management, and engineering change control practices.
  • Strong understanding of system lifecycle processes, integration, verification, technical reviews, and risk management frameworks.
  • Must work on-site in Boulder, Colorado.

Nice to have

  • Advanced degree in engineering, physics, or a related discipline.
  • Familiarity with quantum computing, atomic and optical physics, control system integration, or FPGA/ASIC development cycles.
  • Experience preparing SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR, SIR, and ORR review artifacts.
  • Knowledge of reliability engineering, fault-tolerant architectures, and data-driven verification.
  • Experience supporting government-funded research or procurement programs such as DoD, DoE, DoC, or DARPA.

Culture & Benefits

  • Fully paid medical, dental, and vision insurance for employees and dependents.
  • Unlimited paid time off, short- and long-term disability coverage, FSA, dependent care benefits, and life insurance.
  • 401(k) with company matching.
  • Annual bonus and company equity in addition to base salary.
  • Drinks, snacks, and catered team lunches provided in the offices.
