What you will do

• Partner with mechanical engineers and physicists to design optical subsystems including laser distribution and optical cavities.
• Create novel designs and specifications from component to system level.
• Perform detailed tolerance and stray light analysis to evaluate design suitability.
• Develop alignment procedures and assist in hands-on assembly of optical designs.
• Characterize the performance of finalized optical subsystems.
• Balance competing engineering requirements through collaborative recommendations.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Optical Sciences, Optical Engineering, or a related field.
• 3-5+ years of professional optical design experience.
• 2+ years of hands-on optics assembly experience in a laboratory environment.
• Proficiency with ray-tracing software such as Zemax or FRED.
• Experience with 3D CAD design software like Onshape or Solidworks.
• Ability to lift and move objects weighing up to 25 pounds.

Nice to have

• Advanced degree in a relevant field.
• Experience with Fourier Optics and flat field relay optical systems.
• Experience in the design of high-numerical-aperture imaging systems.
