What you will do

• Initiate and lead the design of complex opto-mechanical systems, ultra-high vacuum chambers, and mechanical infrastructure.
• Collaborate with physicists and technical leaders to architect robust mechanical solutions for optical assemblies.
• Enforce rigorous design standards, perform advanced tolerance analysis, and drive DFMA for scalability.
• Provide technical leadership for hands-on assembly, alignment, and system integration.
• Mentor junior team members and generate internal training documentation to drive technical growth.
• Oversee external vendor relationships and contribute to IP generation and technical documentation.

Requirements

• Location: Must be based in Boulder, CO
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (advanced degree preferred).
• 10+ years of opto-mechanical design experience and 8+ years of hands-on optics assembly in a laboratory environment.
• Deep expertise in SolidWorks, PDM, and FEA (meshing, modal, and thermal analysis).
• Strong knowledge of ASME Y14.5M, ISO 10110, first-order optics, and aberration theory.
• Ability to lift and move objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
