Staff Software Engineer (AI/Fintech)

Location: Charlotte, North Carolina; Mountain View, California; or Oakland, California

Base pay: $202,500–$274,000 in Mountain View or Oakland, California

What you will do

• Own the technical vision and long-term viability of the Credit Karma Portals platform.
• Design and evolve a real-time targeting and rules engine with millisecond-level response times.
• Integrate GenAI and machine learning for content selection and personalization.
• Lead complex technical initiatives across multiple systems and architectural layers.
• Build reusable tools, testing infrastructure, and workflows for product and marketing teams.
• Mentor senior engineers, facilitate design reviews, and address technical debt and engineering gaps.

Requirements

• 7+ years of experience delivering enterprise applications, with strong backend development and API design experience.
• Proficiency in TypeScript, Java, and/or Scala.
• Expertise in scalable microservices, messaging patterns, Kubernetes, Docker, and Terraform.
• Experience with relational and NoSQL databases, ORM concepts, and high-volume, low-latency data pipelines.
• Ability to integrate and evaluate AI models in production, including LLM prompting and personalization algorithms.
• Knowledge of object-oriented programming, algorithms, web application internals, test automation, and CI/CD; a relevant degree or equivalent experience.

Nice to have

• Experience with SaaS platforms or large-scale financial and experimentation platforms.
• Experience with GraphQL and Node.
• Experience defining long-term technical strategies and influencing engineering best practices.
