Staff Software Engineer (Java)

Location: Austin, Texas, United States; hybrid with 1–2 days per week in the Austin office

Salary: $132,000–$152,500 annually

What you will do

• Define requirements and design features, components, APIs, and microservices with Product, Architecture, UX, and SRE colleagues.
• Lead feature development from discovery through production, including technical design, implementation, testing, documentation, and operational readiness.
• Make technical decisions that balance product needs, engineering quality, performance, security, and delivery constraints.
• Develop products delivered as SaaS and on-premise software.
• Raise engineering standards through code reviews, technical feedback, design discussions, pairing, mentoring, and knowledge sharing.
• Participate in continuous improvement and an on-call rotation for a multi-tenant SaaS product.

Requirements

• Extensive hands-on experience delivering major features for products with complex user workflows.
• Strong Java development experience and object-oriented design skills, with a record of delivering well-tested and maintainable software.
• Experience with Spring or similar Java frameworks.
• Experience designing, building, and consuming RESTful APIs, ideally in a microservice architecture.
• Familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes containerized deployment environments.
• Experience with Maven, Gradle, or similar build automation tools, plus AI-assisted software development workflows.

Nice to have

• Cassandra or other distributed NoSQL databases and Kafka or other event-driven messaging technologies.
• Jenkins or similar CI/CD tools and Unix-based development or production environments.
• Identity and Access Management, JMeter, or experience operating and supporting production SaaS systems.
