Sr. Staff Software Engineer (Backend)

Location: Sunrise, Florida, United States

Salary: $145,600–$209,300 per year, plus potential performance-based bonus and restricted stock unit awards.

What you will do

• Own end-to-end architecture for core backend services, balancing scalability, reliability, security, and cost.
• Design and build highly available distributed systems and the APIs that expose them.
• Set technical standards, lead architecture reviews, and guide major design decisions across engineering teams.
• Stay hands-on with complex, business-critical implementation and support teams through the full software development lifecycle.
• Lead root-cause analysis for production issues and improve quality, observability, operational readiness, testing, and CI/CD practices.
• Mentor engineers and establish responsible, secure practices for AI-assisted development.

Requirements

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, including 3+ years in a lead or staff-level capacity.
• Experience owning architecture for a significant backend product area, ideally in a SaaS environment.
• Strong proficiency in Java, C#, Kotlin, or another backend language, with experience in microservices, distributed systems, and API design.
• Experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP, CI/CD pipelines, Docker, and Kubernetes.
• Hands-on experience using AI coding agents such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or Cursor.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience; demonstrated ability to influence technical direction and mentor engineers.

Nice to have

• Experience modernizing legacy platforms or leading large-scale technical migrations.
• Exposure to observability and SRE practices in high-availability production environments.
• Experience with event-driven architectures and messaging systems such as Kafka or RabbitMQ.
• Familiarity with AI/ML-enabled engineering workflows beyond coding assistance.
