Roadway Design Engineer

Location: Denver, Colorado; hybrid work between an office and field environment

Salary: $105,000–$150,000 annually, depending on experience.

What you will do

• Perform roadway design and engineering analysis, including horizontal and vertical alignments, corridor design, grading, typical sections, maintenance of traffic, and drainage coordination.
• Prepare plans, specifications, and estimates in accordance with CDOT, AASHTO, and local agency requirements.
• Coordinate with traffic, drainage, structures, utilities, lighting, landscape, and environmental professionals.
• Support scope development, budgeting, scheduling, project delivery, and quality assurance and quality control reviews.
• Prepare technical reports, design memoranda, calculations, and supporting documentation.
• Participate in client meetings, stakeholder coordination, workshops, proposal development, mentoring, and technical training.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
• 6+ years of roadway or transportation engineering experience.
• Colorado Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain PE licensure within 6 months.
• Experience applying AASHTO, CDOT, and local agency roadway design criteria.
• Proficiency with MicroStation/OpenRoads, AutoCAD Civil 3D, or comparable roadway design software; Civil 3D is preferred.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary project teams.

Nice to have

• Experience delivering PS&E packages for municipal, county, or state transportation projects.
• Consulting experience supporting public-sector clients.
• Familiarity with project development procedures and design standards for clients along the Front Range.
• Interest in developing leadership, mentoring, and project management skills.
