Quality Engineer - Exterior (Automotive)

Location: Onsite in Lansing, Michigan, United States; full-time presence at the Lansing Grand River Assembly plant is required. This role is not eligible for relocation benefits, and relocation costs are the candidate's responsibility.

What you will do

• Solve complex exterior, body, and dimensional quality issues in vehicle general assembly.
• Develop vehicle program quality plans covering GCA, DRR, warranty VOC, and related quality metrics.
• Lead root-cause analysis, containment, corrective actions, and long-term countermeasures using Red X and other problem-solving tools.
• Review nonconforming parts and subassemblies, establish dispositions, analyze data, and develop quality standards and procedures.
• Collaborate with production, product and manufacturing engineering, program teams, and suppliers to prevent defects and improve processes.
• Support new-product launches, engineering changes, production trial runs, audits, supplier visits, and GMS requirements.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in engineering, technology, or equivalent related experience leading engineers in a similar field.
• At least 5 years of professional experience.
• Ability to read engineering drawings, understand GD&T, and work with 3D visualization software.
• Understanding of statistical process control and statistical data analysis.
• Strong critical-thinking, independent-judgment, interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
• Must be legally authorized to work without GM immigration sponsorship now or in the future. A valid ability to operate a motor vehicle regularly and successful completion of a Motor Vehicle Report review are also required.

Nice to have

• Experience with white-light 3D scanning, plant quality systems, engineering and supplier quality applications, and engineering change management.
• Knowledge of PPQP, APQP, and PPAP requirements.
• Supplier audit experience and previous experience as a Quality Engineer, Supplier Quality Engineer, Process Engineer, Design Engineer, or Reliability Engineer.
• Red X Journeyman Certification or higher, and/or DFSS Green Belt Certification or higher.
