Supplier Development Engineer (Die Casting)

Location: On-site in San Carlos or Hayward, California, United States; travel up to 40% domestically and internationally.

Salary: $133,000–$195,000 per year, plus equity.

What you will do

• Industrialize suppliers for die castings, machined components, sheet metal, extrusions, and structural assemblies from prototype through production ramp.
• Develop casting, machining, and finishing processes for lightweight, high-strength structural components.
• Establish supplier processes that meet dimensional, cosmetic, functional, quality, cost, and production requirements.
• Drive APQP and PPAP execution for production readiness and product launches.
• Reduce supplier quality escapes through risk management, root-cause analysis, and corrective actions.
• Improve supplier capability, yield, and process performance through continuous improvement.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• 6+ years of experience in supplier quality, manufacturing quality, supplier development, or manufacturing engineering in automotive, aerospace, robotics, medical device, or similar industries.
• Deep knowledge of aluminum and magnesium die casting, tooling design, and process controls.
• Strong knowledge of machining, sheet metal fabrication, welding, heat treatment, coatings, and surface finishing.
• Expertise in GD&T, metrology, dimensional analysis, process capability, FMEA, Control Plans, SPC, MSA, and capability studies.
• Ability to travel up to 40% domestically and internationally, including occasional short-notice travel.

Nice to have

• Direct experience with die-casting supplier development and process qualification.
• Experience with lightweight structural design, DFM, and DFA principles.
• Experience auditing suppliers against ISO 9001, IATF 16949, or equivalent systems.
• CQE, Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt, or Certified Quality Auditor certification.
• Experience validating tooling, fixtures, automation equipment, and production manufacturing systems.
